About The Story

This is a fiction series… or perhaps a serial novel… or perhaps a webcomic without any pictures… about Mackenzie Blaise, an eighteen year old freshman girl living in Harlowe Hall at Magisterius University. It’s partly a slice-of-life story, inspired by my own college experiences and those of people I’ve known, but Magisterius University is not exactly an ordinary school… and Harlowe Hall is not a normal dormitory… and Mackenzie Blaise is certainly not an average girl.

Revolving as it does around the lives of college students living outside home for the first time, be prepared for some rather blunt discussion of topics best suited for adults. In other words:

Ye’re Off The Edge Of The Map, Matey…
Here There Be Frank Sexual Themes
An’ Adult Situations

The story originally appeared on livejournal, and the first two books can still be found there.

The story generally updates once a week, on or around Wednesday.

Wow really? 5 times a week, I mean I checked back after like 2 months of not reading cause it wasn’t worth the disappointment and missed MAYBE 10 updates.
I understand circumstances that prevent one from doing their JOB, but for 2 going on 3 months? I find that hard to believe. I don’t think its worth checking back more than a few times a year and reading the perchance 20 updates you MIGHT get to.
Stop asking for money if you aren’t going to deliver what you promise.

Thank you for commenting, because I hadn’t realized that this page still had the old update schedule listed on it… that could definitely cause some confusion. Quite a while back I made the decision to do fewer updates in order to focus on quality and keeping the story moving in a deliberate direction over churning them out. Not everybody was happy with this, but not everybody was happy with the uneven quality of the more frequent updates, either.

The stories are free to read. If you don’t think ~1 update a week is worth paying anything for, then you’re free to read it for free… or to pay a fifth of what you’d think it’d be worth if I was doing the same thing five times a week. What I have found, though, is that most of the people who are willing to pay do so in order to keep reading a story they want to read, rather than buying a certain quantity like it’s “words by the pound”.

I’m planning on upping it to twice a week, but that’s not definite… I’m looking to do it in a way that doesn’t sacrifice any quality.

        Wow.

I was impressed with you before, but watching you matador all that negativity makes me jealous. Don’t tell me it’s something you have to deal with often? (Haters gonna hate, etc.)

Hey Lexy, a friend has just started reading and could not find a link anywhere to the very first chapter. I remembered your bookxx/xx trick in the url but new readers will have no clue. Is it possible to add a link to the first chapter for new readers on the main page?

Hi Alexandra! I just want to say that I’ve been reading Tales of MU for a lil over a year now and I love it! A lot. I’ve been trying to get some of my equally smutty minded friends to read it, so far to no avail, but they’ll kick themselves when they realise that the story is more than just a smut and more than just a fantasy – I don’t know what it is but its good so keep it up! My only question is where did the More Tales of MU section go? I’m travelling at the moment and keeping up with which hundred-blah chapter I’m up to in the main story is tricky so I was reading the stories about Jamie because it was easier to remember where I was up to. Where did they go haha?

Many, many thanks for writing this!

Wasn’t sure where to place this comment as it covers multiple chapters so I’m putting it here/

I started re-reading from the beginning of the story yesterday and with the early RPG references I was reminded of a discussion a while back about a Tales of MU RPG. It has a DnD feel to it but it would probably work better systemically if it were run in GURPS, AE have you had any thoughts on coming up with a MU RPG?

I really miss reading MoarMU. Are you planning on ever updating it again?

@Dori So do I. In fact, I can’t even find the previous posts–where did they go?

I really love what you’re doing with Tales of MU, Alexandra. I’m aggregating some subscriptions from my family members so as to cut down on per-transaction fees for you, and will be setting up a monthly subscription from us as soon as I’ve got that done.

Thanks for writing! I’ve been away from Tales of MU for a few months (pressures of life), and just spent the past couple of days gorging myself on the tasty, tasty updates that have accrued while I was gone. You continue to amaze, delight, astound, and move me.

And I, in turn, continue to recommend Tales of MU to everyone I know. :-)

P.S. I also think it’s a million kinds of awesome that you’ve found a way to turn your writing skills into sustainable income on the web. Go you!
