Mack, Amaranth, Celia, Two and Steff eat breakfast together, talking about the Student Senate election and the Empire's methods of appointing a Consul are discussed.

Professor Goldman offers an indirect incentive for the people who are distancing themselves from Mack in class to move toward her - perfect marks to substitute for a low marked quiz or test, but only to those in their assigned seats.

Professor Ariadne turns hostile toward Mack and attempts to get her to drop Elven History. Instead, Dee, Steff, Karl, and three others leave. Upset over the coup, Ariadne dismisses class early. Mack resolves to stay in the course and to pass it.
