If you've edited Wikipedia or another similar wiki-resource before, this'll all be nothing new to you... but if you haven't, here's some tips to get started. Don't be intimidated... nobody has yet managed to break a wiki by trying new things. Anything you do can be fixed with a couple clicks, we promise.

[edit] Editing an Article

Every article has a link among the tabs at the top that simply says "edit." Click on it and you'll get a big text box with the content of the article in it. Type away! You can make text italic with these or bold with these. Note that these are single quotes (i.e., apostrophes), not full-fledged quotation marks.

[edit] Creating an Article

Creating a new article is as simple as trying to view one which doesn't already exist. If you search for a character or other topic and nothing comes up, you'll be given the option of starting a new article. Same thing if you click on a link to a non-existent article.

If you don't have much to say about the subject, even a few sentences to get the ball rolling can help. Just type Stub at the bottom, so that people can see that it's a "starter page" that needs fleshing out.

[edit] Linking to Other Articles

To create a cross-reference to another article, put around the name of that article. For instance, Mackenzie Blaise makes the words "Mackenzie Blaise" into a link. This should be done in the body of a paragraph, like "That's where she met Mackenzie Blaise." If the full name does not make sense in context, you can put Mack... with a | (vertical line) between the actual article name and what you want the text to read... so it will just say "Mack".

Whenever another character, important place, etc., is mentioned, go ahead and make it a link. If the article doesn't already exist, this will allow somebody (possibly even you) to go ahead amd make it. Don't bother linking every time, though... the first mention within a given article is usually all that's necessary.

[edit] Sub-Headings

To make a sub-heading (like the bold text that says "Sub-Headings" right above this), put three = signs on either side of the text, like this: === Personal Life ===. This not only formats the text, but adds to the table of contents box above. Neat, huh?

[edit] Categories

A page with Category in its title is special, and should not be treated like another article... no more than a line or two of description should actually be used to fill it out. The actual body of the category will consist of links to articles within that category, and this list is created from within the articles, rather than the category itself.

To add an article to a category, put at the bottom of the article. For instance, puts a character in the category of "Fighter". Note that you can create an entirely new category this way, too! If you can think of a useful category to have that doesn't yet exist, just go through and put the appropriate tags on the articles that would belong in it. Clicking on the resultant link will allow you to create the category.

If you want to link to a category rather than placing an article within it place a colon in front of the word Category like so - :Category: This prevents the wiki from reading the article as an entry in that category, providing a link to that category instead. For example, :Category:Fighters would place a link to the category Fighters in the article but would not cause the article to be listed in the Fighters category. The link thus provided appears where you place it in the article rather than at the bottom of the article where Category links generally cluster.
