Talk:Main Page

From MU Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Just noticed that some time ago, a spammer removed the content that was on this page, and the person who cleaned it up used the edit feature to empty the page, rather than the history page to undo the change... bringing that text forward here:

So, we are going with categories on the main page then? Ok. Only subcategories left off of here, then? - 4340597

Kind of an infrastructure question: is there someone who's handling administration of the MU wiki? I was browsing around, and came across this guy... I figure wiki pages spamming support for a World of Warcraft power-leveling service is probably not desirable. Just removing the files is one thing, but I'm not sure if there's anyone who is in charge of handling things like banning problematic users. Sciguy 11:18, 18 September 2007 (PDT)

Just based on the user list, the only person with any admin rights is AE herself. Unless she's reading this page, that guy probably won't be banned. In the meantime, I think 216.9.250.106 had the right idea. Just flag stuff with [[Category:Spam]]. When AE (or someone she's promoted) does some housekeeping, she can find spam posts easily. When I did that (erasing the spud's entry) I marked the category as spam in case he came back and restored from history or re-posted. I'm no admin (here, anyway), but spuds like that are usually hit-and-run, spread their bad seed and move on. Usually if a community comes to a consensus that spam isn't tolerated and deletes same as soon as it's observed, the spammer has moved on, doesn't come back and re-spam (and you can tell I'm an optimist too!)

I also wanted to draw attention to the fact that if this is going to be a happy fan-site for MU we collectively can do our part to make it a clean place to hang and think MU thoughts! (clean in the sense of free from distraction, not puritanical...)

Just ignore the bot-spam and delete it whenever you see it. The Watchman 00:12, 27 November 2007 (PST)

Sigh - nobody reads this, right? Why do the spammers even bother putting crap here? User:Tgape 04:40 12 December 2007 (GMT)

Got it - google. So is there any way we can tell google to ignore Talk: pages, and maybe the spammers will go away? -- Tgape 3:41 14 December 2007 (GMT)
